The Kir Royale gets is name from Felix Kir, Mayor of Dijon in Burgandy, France around the time of World War II. Following World War II, Mayor Kir started a movement to pair "sister cities" from different countries around the globe in order to promote cultural links and relationships between countries throughout the world.

Back to cocktails, this drink was originally prepared with Creme de Cassis, a blackcurrant liqueur, and topped off with white wine. Mayor Kir became known for serving this delicious drink to visiting international delegations visiting Dijon and the drink was eventually named for him.

The "Royale" version is similar in that it is prepared with Creme de Cassis or Black Raspberry Liqueur and topped off with Champagne. Just the name is sure to make your guests feel special.

How to make a Kir Royale Cocktail

Start with a champagne glass and pour 1/2 oz of Creme de Cassis or Black Raspberry Liqueur. Fill the flute with Champagne. For a finishing touch, garnish with a Lemon twist.
