Black Widow Cocktail Recipe

Whenever I hear the words Black Widow, the image that comes to mind is a big creepy spider or some kind of bad horror movie. Not the case anymore. In the search for the perfect drink to serve at my Halloween get together, I came across this recipe and needless to say, I'm glad I did.

While grape juice isn't a typical mixer, it works well in this recipe and the ginger adds something a little unexpected compared to the usual cocktail faire. The name is great for Halloween, but this drink is versitile enought to be served at any evening event.

Notes from the Bar: the purpose of muddling is to release the flavors from the ingredients, not to crush everything beyond recognition. With the blackberries especially, muddle but don't massacre - this will mean fewer seeds and random berry parts getting through your strainer.

How to make a Black Widow Cocktail

Start with a cocktail shaker and add 1 teaspoon of Sugar, 4 slices of fresh Ginger and 4 fresh Blackberries. Muddle these ingredients together. Fill the shaker with ice and then add 1 1/2 oz of Vodka and 3 oz of dark Grape Juice (rather than white). Shake it up and strain carefully into a chilled cocktail glass.

Enjoy responsibly with friends!
